About the Provider

Dr. Shyam Shridharani has over 10 years of spine surgery experience. He completed his surgical training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and the University of California San Diego, both of which are widely considered top spine surgical training programs.

Prior to joining Abrazo Health, Dr. Shridharani was the Section Chief of Spine Surgery at the University of Arizona. His areas of expertise include cervical (neck), thoracic (mid-back), and lumbar (low-back) spinal disorders. He frequently treats conditions such as cervical spinal stenosis, cervical radiculopathy, cervical myelopathy, lumbar spinal stenosis, lumbar disc herniation, sciatica, scoliosis, metastatic cancer of the spine, and spine trauma. Although Dr. Shridharani’s expertise is primarily surgical, he believes that patients should undergo a trial of nonsurgical treatments such as injections and physical therapy (when appropriate) prior to considering
spine surgery.

As a spine surgeon, his guiding principles are providing excellent surgical care; building strong relationships with patients and their families; embracing a health care team approach in which everyone has an important role; maximizing nonsurgical management before considering surgical intervention; listening carefully to patients and their families; and creating an individual approach for each patient's needs. These values allow Dr. Shridharani to ensure the best possible surgical outcomes for patients and develop trusting relationships with patients and their families.

Dr. Shridharani's proudest moments as a surgeon include when patients tell him they “got their life back because of surgery”; when patients recommend their family members see him for care; and when doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals seek him out for their own spine care.
