Spine Surgical Treatment

Some of the spine surgical treatment options we offer for back and neck pain include:

  • Microdiscectomy – a minimally invasive procedure for removing disc material that has herniated or moved to an abnormal location, causing pressure on the spinal cord, sac of nerves, or spinal nerve roots.
  • Spinal fusion – a surgery to permanently connect two or more vertebrae in the spine, eliminating motion between them.
  • Spinal decompression (laminectomy) – a surgery that creates space by removing the back part of the vertebra that covers the spinal canal, which enlarges the spinal canal to relieve pressure on the spinal cord, sac of nerves, or nerve roots.
  • Vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty – a minimally invasive surgical procedure to stabilize a spinal compression fracture.
  • Spine fracture and spinal cord injury – non-invasive, minimally invasive or invasive procedures to decompress and stabilize spinal fractures and treat spinal cord injury.
  • Deformity spinal surgery – surgery involving both spinal fusion and instrumentation to improve the alignment of the spine for those with scoliosis or kyphosis.
  • Spine cancer surgery – surgery for decompressing the spinal cord and nerves and stabilizing the spine.
  • Anterior Cervical Surgery – surgery for decompressing the cervical spinal cord or nerves through the front of the neck.
  • Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery – surgery performed with specialized instruments and techniques.

Why Choose Us

Spine Surgery is scary for patients, high-risk, and complicated. Therefore, the surgeon you trust your care with is critically important. The best surgeons have world-class training, top-notch surgical skills, excellent bed-side manner, an understanding that surgery is a last resort, and treat their patients with the same care they would provide their own family members.

Drs. Shridharani and Dr. Hood trained at the some of the most prestigious Spine Surgical training centers including the Mayo Clinic and University of California—San Diego. They currently train resident (apprentice) surgeons and are often asked to teach and train other surgeons throughout the United States. Both Drs. Shridharani and Dr. Hood believe that surgical treatment is a last resort and that most patients should undergo physical therapy and spinal injections before considering spine surgery. Both surgeons use advanced techniques including spinal microsurgery and minimally invasive spine surgery and treat a broad range of spinal disorders including cervical (neck), thoracic (mid-back), lumbar (low back) problems. Commonly treated conditions include disc herniations, sciatica, “pinched nerves”, spinal stenosis, cervical myelopathy, scoliosis, spine trauma, and cancers of the spine. Both Drs. Shridharani and Hood are committed to excellence in patient care and always put their patients first.
